Are You Afraid of Lions?
True. That is likely very true for the majority of my readers. But, in some ways, it was also true for the people this verse was referring to: "A sluggard says, "There's a lion in the road, a fierce lion roaming the streets!" The Bible, Proverbs 26:3
Now, now, don't get all offended and accuse me of calling you a sluggard. I did no such thing. But...if YOU are considering whether you might fall into that category?
And whether or not today's KIP might apply to you? Let me help you out a bit. This verse is talking about a sluggard. Sluggish people. Lazy people. Those that are not pulling their weight, doing their work, or interested in any way in upping their game. When asked to chip in and help? Take up some of the slack? All kinds of absurd excuses follow. Such as: "Are you kidding me! There might be a lion out in streets! I can't help you, I might get eaten by a wild lion!" And this is being said, in an area where clearly, no lions are running wild in the streets! It is just a ridiculous excuse because
this person does not want to do the work. So I ask you: What excuses, maybe even ridiculous excuses, have you been telling others (or more likely yourself), as to why you have not reached your goals, are not selling the amount you desire, have not built a team-even though you express you would like to? Any of these sound familiar? "Well, I can't ask my family and friends. I don't want to be "that" salesperson they all run from!" "But I don't know anyone! No one lives around me. I don't even have strangers to sell to." "Well, I never bring up joining my team because I don't want to be pushy and offend someone!" "ALL the shows around here are taken!"
"Too many are already doing good-there's no chance left for me!" "Yes, but, NO ONE will host a party for me!"
"I'm just not lucky."
"My sponsor doesn't help me!"
"I don't have time." "I don't like the phone." (or I don't like to email...or I don't have FB, etc.)
"I tried. I really did. Nothing works for me."
Hmmm....I'll leave it to you to decide. The above are common "excuses" I hear on a regular basis. I am not saying that some don't "feel" valid at times. But the bottom line? The real truth? Is that success comes after a lot of hard work. Excuses don't work. YOU must do the work. And when you come to an area you are not comfortable with, are inexperienced in, or down right dread doing? You have to ask yourself, "How bad do I really want it?" And then keep on keeping on! The truth is: Your friends and family might really love what you are selling!
Others you could share the business with? They might be looking for an opportunity exactly like what you offer! Everyone can meet new people!
If you really want to, you can join new clubs or even just start conversations while grocery shopping!
Maybe everyone has said "No" when you asked them to host a party. But it sometimes takes a lot of "No's" to get some "Yes's" and only those that stop making excuses....those that aren't afraid of make believe lions in the streets....keep on going and hear that wonderful word, "Yes!" We all have the same amount of time and those that are really working their business hard? Make time. They don't have more time than you. They are simply choosing to fit their business in their busy life.
Your sponsor? Does not determine your success! YOU DO! If she isn't active or involved? Find the help you need! Everything you need, every answer to every question you have, is out there waiting to be found!
I could go on and on. But I think you get the idea. Whether it's because a person is lazy (a sluggard), or afraid to fail, or afraid to succeed (yes! there is such a thing!), it's far better to ask yourself the hard questions and make some firm decisions than it is to blame your lack of even trying on a ridiculous notion like, "A l
ion might eat me!".
There are no lions roaming in your street. Time to stop making excuses and get out there and make your own ROAR!
